Philly U / Camden Riversharks

The second Philadelphia University presentations went off without a hitch. With the exception of the 2.5 hour drive I had to make from my brother’s wedding the morning of haha — But the students did a tremendous job yet again, and ChemoClothes is thrilled to be apart of the their projects. The items are slated to be up in the store in the next couple weeks, so please keep your eye out for them, in addition to an item that somehow slipped by the cracks from last term.

The Camden Riversharks approached us to be the recipients of a 2012 Stitch and Pitch — for those who don’t know its a fundraiser where people can come to the park, watch the game, and “stitch” if they choose to do so. — We’ve done it in the past with them and we’re happy to be apart of this year’s events as well. Keep an eye out for it! :)

A lot of things happening in townships these days for recreational sports which has caused a huge disappointment for ChemoClothes because as of right now we are without fields for our annual Soccer Tournament. If you have any input, please reach out to us.

Hope everyone is doing well and I will talk to you later!

Bowling Success!

Isn’t it nice when a plan comes together? Bowl Over Cancer could not have gone over any smoother and it was such a breath a fresh air to have it all done with everybody happy. Now we’ll have to move onto our biggest event, the Deb Levy Soccer Tournament. Slated to be on grass fields this year, it will surely not disappoint anyone.

This year is moving along quickly! Before you know it, it will be summer time and I’ll be finishing up my MBA program. Hard to believe it’s been a year of going back to school already… I can’t wait till its over! haha — which is actually good new for ChemoClothes :)

Optimism

I know optimism is a difficult thing when dealing with cancer, but a lot can be said of those who are optimistic. Not only does it keep yourself from going insane, but it also keeps those around you from breaking down as well. This doesn’t just apply to patients, but everyone involved….

Positive attitudes are contagious. Besides, no one likes a Debbie Downer! :)

Reflecting on the last 3 years

ChemoClothes has been a great outlet for me to cope with the passing of my mother from breast cancer. Since the beginning of the organization I’ve been able to meet great people and help many in their own battles with the horrible disease. I hope to never give this organization up as it has helped personally and even professionally.

I can contribute a lot of great things to starting ChemoClothes and I hope to be able to contribute a lot more to it. And I can’t wait to see what this year brings!

Fundraisers & More!

I have to admit a lot of work to be done in the next few months for our two biggest fundraisers of the year,  Bowl Over Cancer and the Deb Levy Soccer Tournament.  I hope everyone is as excited as we are about them.  Be sure to keep an eye out for a ‘save the date’ type of email for the bowling event.

Our partnership with Philadelphia University has extended to another semester and we could not be happier about it.  The items that everyone made last semester helped raise close to $1,000 in about a month!   We can only hope to have that kind of success in the projects to come.   We will be posting the items from that project online in the next couple weeks, unfortunately we had technical difficulty while transferring the pictures online, so we hope they will be ready for everyone soon!

A new website structure is in the works, and I can’t wait to see what our great volunteers come up with!  They are super talented and have some tremendous work.  Thanks again to everyone helping make this organization as great as we can make it!

A New Year!

Well I’m ready to start the new year!  Half way through my masters program and a full year under my belt at Archway Programs (my employer)…  2012 is poised to be a great year.   Unfortunately 2011 had some unexpected disappointments — a couple close friends were diagnosed with cancer, and I lost my uncle to lung cancer.  Just more of a reason to keep ChemoClothes going as a great outlet for not patients, families, and friends, but also myself!

ChemoClothes is real excited about our three annual events (with our Bowling event only 2 months away), our new website, and much much more.  Keep following us on our social medias and don’t be shy to comment or like our updates!

3rd Annual Bowl Over Cancer- Date Set!

After a busy two weeks with ChemoClothes, we’re starting to settle down.  Today we’re bringing gifts to one of the families we’re helping this year.  I hope they like their presents!  An Ipod, roller skates, pajamas, and more!  Definitely fun gifts to buy :)

Bowl Over Cancer will be March 24th from 1-4pm at Laurel Lanes once again!  It’s been very successful in the past and I hope that we’re able to make it special again.  Be sure to keep an eye out for when lanes go on sale!

Other than that, I hope that everyone has a great and safe holiday season!

A big “thank you” to Philadelphia University

Some 65 students in fashion design, fashion merchandising and fashion industry management made items to benefit ChemoClothes. The students designed, merchandised, produced and marketed the products for their class this semester and will donate their items to ChemoClothes. The students will present the projects tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in The Tuttleman Auditorium at Philadelphia University, off School House Lane in the East Falls section of Philadelphia. Some of the items made by the students for ChemoClothes include: student-designed blankets that can fold up into pillows; hand-knit infinity scarves to give patients warmth and comfort, with a cancer ribbon charm attached; fleece headbands adorned with accessories; hand-crocheted headbands for baby girls; carry-on totes; and hand-made “bohemian” baby bibs. For more information on Philadelphia University go to www.PhilaU.edu. Thanks again! We are honored and privileged to have work with such inspiring and caring individuals.

New and exciting things from ChemoClothes

Lately ChemoClothes has been in discussions with our top notch graphic designer and web developer on a newer, more interactive, and fresher website design.  Everything is very exciting.  Additionally the bowling event is in the works.  Bowl Over Cancer is slated for late March, so mark your calendars!

It’s been a while!

Sorry I haven’t been keeping everyone up to date on ChemoClothes events!  Things have been a little out of sorts since I started an MBA program.  However, we have been posting on facebook and twitter, so be sure to look us up there!

We’re currently looking for families to support for the holidays, so please contact us regarding that.  And keep checking for our next event, which will be an old school beef and beer!  (Hopefully in early November)
